How does hosting a custom virtual contest work?

You may have seen virtual contests run through Judgingcard that use our site for the video/classes. These are done as partnerships between Livestockjudging.com and the organizations hosting the events.

We do not charge for these virtual events; what we get from them is the classes themselves at the end of the contest. Here’s the process for how it works…

  1. Scheduling - We set up a date and time for us to come film your classes. This depends partly upon our pre-existing travel schedule but in most cases, we film the virtual events during the school day or immediately after, when you can use students to help organize the classes.
  2. Filming - We come to your location and film the classes that you put together. How long this takes depends largely how quickly you can cycle animals through. It typically takes 2 minutes to actually film an animal if it is handled well.
  3. Editing/Hosting - We handle all of this and send you a link to the contest.
  4. Officials - You have your official judge watch the videos, provide official placings, cuts, and a brief explanation/critique of the class.
  5. We will handle the video during the week of your event.

Entry Fees

We do not handle entry fees. You may do that yourself, but we HIGHLY recommend going through Judgingcard. Your contest will almost certainly gross more due to their extensive reach just from appearing on their schedule.

There is no reason for an online event to be restricted to one state; we recommend your contest be held nationally.

Classes

It is important to note that you will still be putting together a contest and finding officials.

We do not allow our library of classes to be used for virtual contests that charge entry fees. This is to prevent the virtual contests from being watered down by charging teams to compete using classes they may have already seen online on our site or even in person.

Our policy on this subject is similar to Judgingcard, which strictly prohibits the use of images found online for virtual events. If you wish to charge an entry fee for an online event, ethically, the classes should be new.

Critiques/Reasons/Officials

We realize it’s a busy time of year, and getting critiques/keys done can be challenging. We’ve also learned from experience that if we do not get critiques done in a timely manner, they simply won’t get done because things only get busier.

We will no longer activate contests for public viewing until we have received critiques for all classes. This means that if your contest is live on Judgingcard but you have not submitted critiques, your contestants will see a notice that states “Livestockjudging.com is waiting for the content of this contest to be submitted by the organization holding it before it will go live.”

If a contest has failed to provide critiques in the past, we ask that any critiques for those events be submitted before we will consider working on the next year’s event.

Third-Party Video

In order to maintain minimum quality standards, all videos must be shot by us. We will not host pictures or slides shot by third parties.

We recommend using Google Docs for contests hosted in that manner.
